lyrics
Under the Linden Tree
Lies, telling us your lies
won’t make your pain
no less.
Talks, voices from the dark,
words we don’t understand.
And God
is our helping hand
to put you back to place.
Save,
we’re gonna save your soul and put your flesh to rest.
And maybe you were just ill
and somebody would have known a cure.
But we just wanted
to make sure
you’re not harbouring
the devil in you.
Scream, like a bloody whore,
we won’t recoil from you.
Cry, the more you cry
the more we punish you.
And God
is our helping hand
to put
your prayers to silence.
Death is your only friend
to release your soul
from evil.
And maybe you were
just deranged
and somebody would have known a cure.
But we just wanted
to make sure
you’re not harbouring
the devil in you.
Suffer,
the pain you suffer,
it’s all your fault,
you know!
The sin, the sin of Eve
that let the devil in.
And God
is our helping hand
washing blood from ours.
A last rite and all is done.
Your soul is free,
your life begone.
There’s no place
behind the church,
holiness deconsecrated.
So we bury you just outside
under the linden tree
in profane ground.
Exorcizamus te,
omnis immundus spiritus
omnis satanica potestas,
omnis incursio
infernalis adversarii,
omnis legio,
omnis congregatio
et secta diabolica.
Ergo draco maledicte
et omnis legio diabolica
adiuramus te.

So I can't leave a long enough review to say everything I want. But I will say this, I love this EP. It's a great little follow up to times, and has just enough of a dynamic shift in sound to prove that Smoulder isn't a one trick pony with their first album's formula. This one really plays up the 70s prog aspects (DUST and Manilla Road influences definitely shine through even harder here). It's still Smoulder, don't get me wrong. Just a different side in some ways, all of which are good. playfulpooka
